When using NMF, a partnership may wish to make an agreement to show the quality of opener's holding in responder's major suit. When using Wittes, opener responds to the NMF bid as follows:
a) 3C when holding 3 small or 2 small headed by the jack;
b) 3D shows Qxx
c) 3H shows Kxx or Axx
d) 3S shows 3 card support including at least two of the top three honors in the responder's major.
e) 3nt shows 3 small or 2 small headed by the jack and a strong preference for playing in notrump.
